Roy Lester Pittman

Roy Lester Pittman, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Bell-Minor Nursing home following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Barry Barron and Reverend W. E. Peeples will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Monday, February 5, 2007 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pittman was born in Jackson County to the late Thomas Oliver Pittman and Sarah D. Shore Pittman. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jenelle Smith and also his grandson Jeff Dean. Mr. Pittman served in the US Army in World War II and retired from Southland Life Insurance Company as an insurance agent. He was a lifelong member and also served as a deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Bessie Elrod Pittman, Gainesville, daughter, Janice Lenora White, Gainesville, brother, Edward E. Pittman, Flowery Branch, sister, Ila Mae Nicholson, Terra Haute, Indiana, granddaughters, Peri Lynn Williamson, Margo Fraker, Tanya Seabolt, and Kimberly Ann Whitfield, grandsons, Robert Lester Gilstrap, and Josh Poole, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
