Jack J. Dyer

Jack J. Dyer age 81, of Cornelia, died Sunday April 8, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Jackson County, June 29, 1925, he was the son of the late Angile and Fannie Jones Dyer. He was retired from Cornelia Textile and was also a farmer. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII, in the 117th General Hospital as a medic and a cook. He was a member of Hickory Flat United Methodist Church, lifetime member of VFW Post #7720 and lifetime member of Woodmen of the World. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and in his later years enjoyed painting.

Surviving are wife, Christine Whitlock Dyer of Cornelia; sons and daughter-in-laws, Mike and Tia Dyer of Hollywood, Wendell and Angela Dyer of Lula, Angile and Dede Dyer of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Leon Williams of Demorest, Susan and Mitchel Smith of Cornelia; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by brothers Angile Jr., James, and Edgar Dyer, sister Lillian Lyons, and grandson Wendell Steve Dyer.

A celebration of life will be held 2pm Tuesday April 10, 2007, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Dr. Tom Mewborn and Rev. Brian James officiating. Burial will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Rabun D.A.V. Chapter #15 and the Habersham County American Legion Post #84.

The body is at McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 on Monday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
