Julius Turner (J.T.) Underwood, age 77, of Brenau Point Drive, Gainesville, passed away July 22, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Fields officiating. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Underwood was born in Hall County on June 20, 1930 to the late John Turner and Vila Wilson Underwood. He graduated from Murrayville High School. He was retired as manager of the Gainesville Elks Club, Moose Lodge and Leggs Package Store after many years. Mr. Underwood proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was loved and appreciated by many relatives and friends and he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Underwood of Gainesville; daughter, Kelley Underwood of Raleigh, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Underwood of Mt. Airy, GA; grandson and wife, Zach and Stephanie Underwood of Ft. Campbell, KY; grandsons, Blake and Josh Underwood, both of Mt. Airy, GA; sisters, Polly King of Gainesville, GA; and Florine Underwood of Atlanta, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Kitty and Don Grogan of Augusta, GA; sisters-in-law, Joann Underwood of Atlanta and Nell Underwood, Gainesville, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers for those who wish to make a contribution may donate in memory of the late J.T. Underwood to either the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501; Compassionate Hospice, 2625 Thompson Bridge Road Suite 112, Gainesville, GA 30501; or Good News Clinic, 810 Pines Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
