William "Buddy" Joseph Power

Obituary Date: Thursday, September 4, 2025

William "Buddy" Joseph Power, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 2, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.

Buddy was born on January 27, 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late William Joseph, Sr. and Nettie J. Quarles Power. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Hardin Power; sisters, Dora Lee Brown, Samantha Burdette, Evelyn Knox; brothers, William "Little Bill" L. Power, and Ray Power.

He is survived by his son, Bill Power (Cindy) and daughter, Janet Rosenberry (Tucker); grandchildren, Dustin Power (Lulu), Kayla Woods (Austin), Bretton Rosenberry and Tristan Rosenberry; great-grandchildren, Luella Power and Beau Woods; brothers, George Power and David Power; sister, Marie Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.

Buddy lived a wonderful life alongside his beautiful and loving wife of 68 years. He also cherished his role as a father, grandfather “Papaw” and great-grandfather. He was a man of love and gentleness, faith and kindness, talent, skill and humor.  He was a hard worker, with only a 7th grade education, but went back later to get his GED prior to serving his term in the National Guard. After his time in the National Guard he provided for his family in the field of carpentry and construction and also worked briefly with his father-in-law in the tire business. When it came to his many skills of carpentry, woodworking and even masonry, you can almost say there was nothing he couldn’t do. A gifted and patient woodworker, his hands could transform a simple piece of wood into a work of art, from custom furniture to beautiful keepsakes for his family and friends, many who were at first his customers. His creative vision and meticulous attention to detail are visible in every piece he created, and his craftsmanship will be cherished for generations. He also had a great love and skill for gardening. When he did something, he did it well. So, no different than his woodworking skills, his gardens were "done well", beautiful and abundant. His skill of gardening was developed in his younger years by the need to provide food on the table, but in his later years that skill provided connection and friendships that many will cherish. With his roots of growing up on the river at Powers Ferry it is no surprise his favorite hobby was fishing, specifically trout fishing. If he wasn’t in his shop or garden, you could most likely find him fishing. He instilled his love of fishing to his children, grandchildren and son-in-law. Buddy leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, patience and a deep appreciation for the simple beauty of a well-crafted piece of wood or a peaceful afternoon spent outdoors. His presence will be deeply missed, but the stories, laughter, and beautiful creations he leaves behind will ensure his memory lives on.

"but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-- whatever they do prospers." Psalms 1:2-3

The family would like to give a special "thank you" to the staff and care team at The Resting Nest and to Pruitt Hospice. They not only cared for him, but showed him so much love.  In their words, "He is one of the sweetest men I've ever met."
