Charles Robert Holcomb, 96, of Gainesville died August 29, 2025. Born August 4, 1929, in Georgia to the late James Curtis and Edna McCarthy Holcomb.
After spending four years serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he returned to Gainesville. Charlie worked at General Motors in Doraville for thirty-three years, starting as an assembler serving as a Union Representative and then as a production supervisor. After retirement he served as a consultant for plants across the nation.
He was a Master Mason, having been in the Masonic Lodge for 57 years. He had been elected to and served in all office positions in the Malta Lodge and Gainesville Lodge. He was a leader, instructor an example for his brothers.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Martha Edge Holcomb; brothers, Hoyt C. Holcomb and Willie Alton Holcomb; sisters, Eva Ruth Merwin and Edna Joyce Willard.
Survivors include, devoted wife, Sharon McGrath Holcomb; her son, Jim McGrath; his daughters, Sharon Carol Kent and Laurie Holcomb; sisters, Mary Jo Summerford, Sara Jane Gerhard; brother, Hugh Harold Holcomb.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11 am at Little Davenport Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will be held later at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton
