Jenny Florence Turk, age 80, of Gainesville, Georgia, died peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on July 11, 1945, in Gainesville, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Susie C. Dorsey Chandler. Florence and her husband, Arvin, were married for 63 years and spent much of their lives farming and together built a loving family rooted in hard work and devotion. Florence, also known as Mama, Granny, Flo & Flossie was a spirited woman whose greatest joy was her family. She cherished tending to her flowers, especially her beloved tulips each spring, and looked forward every year to planting a vegetable garden. Harvesting the first tomatoes and ears of corn brought her special delight, and she was known for making the family’s favorite: a hearty tomato biscuit.
She was preceded in death by brothers, G.W. Chandler, Frank (Merle) Chandler, sisters Jessie Mae (Walter) Margavich, Nettie Chandler and Margaret (Doug) Abernathy.
She is survived by her husband, James Arvin Turk; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Judy Turk; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Turk; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kendyl and Brice Burke; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jonathan and Brooke Turk; great-grandson, Carter Burke; and great-grandchildren Colton, Blaire and Carter Smith. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” and Linda Chandler, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home, with Pastor John Kinsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers include grandson, Jonathan Turk, great nephews, Jacob Abernathy, Mitchell Abernathy, Paul Abernathy, Ben Chandler and Josh Chandler. Florence was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her warmth, strength, and devotion will be remembered always.
