Richard P. Bradbury, 89, of Gainesville, GA, passed away on July 28, 2025. Richard was born on August 11,1935 in Peoria, IL, to Carl and Ethel Bradbury. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret and three children Beth Hensley (Ken, deceased), Diane Driscoll, Michelle Bradbury and daughter-in-law Sara C. Bradbury. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Abby Hensley, Kate and Michael Driscoll, and Wilson Bradbury. His son David M. Bradbury preceded him in death in May 2023, succumbing to a short battle with cancer.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Agriculture and a B.S. in Veterinary Science. In 1961, he received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After graduation he joined the Air Force where he served for 15 years and took advantage of training in Laboratory Animal Medicine. He then transferred to the Public Health Service and served for 13 years. Following retirement from the service he worked another 15 years for a private company affiliated with the National Institutes of Health. He very much enjoyed his working experience involving animals from mice to monkeys.
He and Margaret enjoyed many years of traveling the USA eventually completing 10K walks in every U.S. capital city. They also enjoyed travel in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Iceland.
Since he and Margaret were both only children, in looking back over his life he is most proud of his contributions to medical science and the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
