Mrs. Maybell Barrett, age 92, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. She was born on August 6, 1933, in Dahlonega to the late Reece Crisson and the late Callie Head Crisson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Barrett; siblings John W. Crisson, Lucille C. Barrett, R.L. Crisson, and Leroy Crisson; and her special niece and nephew, Verlon Parson and Johnny Crisson.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty (Larry) Waters of Blue Ridge and Debbie Lowe of Dahlonega; grandchildren Michael (Gail) Waters, Marcell Bagwell, Bob (Kerry) Nolan, and Amy (Cliff) Hooker; great-grandchildren Ashley (Brandon) Blevins, Kayla (Brandon) Esparza, Christopher (Victoria) Waters, Kristen (Austin) Cornelius, Chase McClenning, Blake McClenning, Ansley Nolan, Audrey Nolan, Payton Hooker, and Mackenzie Hooker; great-great-grandchildren Dominic, Tyler, Jacob, Payton, Charles, Lexi, Easton, Eden, Briggs, Ariel, Shyann, Bradley, McKensley, Nathaniel, Callie, Phillip, and Oliver; and sister-in-law Santa Crisson. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.
Maybell’s favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving. She would spend countless hours preparing, often starting her cooking three to five days in advance. Known for her special desserts, she delighted in surprising her guests with their favorites. Before anyone left, she would smile, reach into the refrigerator or pie safe, and pull out an identical treat, saying, “Now, this one is for you to take home.”
She also loved flowers and was a dedicated gardener through and through, taking pride in the beauty she nurtured.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Moose and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Bethel Tabernacle Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
