L.B. Kitchens, a self-employed pulpwood logger who embodied the spirit of hard work and devotion to family, passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 86 in Commerce, Georgia, surrounded by his many loved ones. Born on June 23, 1939, in Carnesville, Georgia, L.B. cultivated a life defined by dedication to his craft and community.
Throughout his career as a logger, L.B. was not only known for his skills in the woods but also for his integrity and work ethic. He took pride in providing for his family and was respected by colleagues and friends alike for his commitment to the industry.
L.B. was deeply rooted in his faith as a member of the Baptist Tabernacle in Commerce. His faith was a guiding light in his life and influenced the way he interacted with others, offering kindness and support to those around him.
He leaves behind a loving family: his sons, Larry (Cheryl Grace) Kitchens, Samuel Kitchens, and Mark Kitchens; his brother, Gartrell Kitchens; his sisters, Johnnie Girard and Lutrel Booth; as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
L.B. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sybil Dorsey Kitchens; his father, Hoyt Kitchens; his mother, Myrtle Nation Kitchens; and his siblings, Howard Kitchens, J.D. Kitchens, Hazel Slater, Ethlene Brock, and May Clark, and Gertrude Grizzle.
Visitation will be held on August 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA 30529. A funeral service will follow on August 11, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home. The burial will take place at Blacks Creek Baptist Church, 3754 Blacks Creek Church Road, Commerce, GA 30530, immediately following the service.
L.B. Kitchens will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his faith, and the legacy of hard work he instilled in those he cherished. He leaves behind a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
