Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Helen Kathleen Mitchell, age 75, from Commerce, Georgia who entered rest Thursday July 31, 2025. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi the daughter of the late John and Margaret Kolb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James S. Mitchell and two siblings, Jewel Jean Kastrantus and David Kolb.
Helen was a Homemaker, a Supervisor for a Military kitchen, worked in the Biloxi City Schools as a substitute teacher and cafeteria worker where she retired from. She was a jokester with a silly sense of humor. Her competitive nature made games fun, even if there was some arguing over the actual rules of Phase 10. Helen had a keen interest in peculiar things like Bigfoot and ghost stories. She loved all things Disney, made holidays and celebrations fun with your extra special touch.
Survivors include son, James J. Mitchell (Johana) of Stafford, VA. Daughter, Sheryl A. Campbell (Walker) of Commerce, GA. Seven grandchildren, Tiffany Hendrix (Brent) of Woodstock, GA, Robert Campbell (Erin) of Asheboro, NC, Cameron Campbell (Amberly) of Commerce, GA, Katherine Campbell (Jeremy) of Atlanta, GA, Tyler J. Caron of Caribou, Maine, Madison A. Mitchell of Dumfries, VA and Mikayla G. Mitchell of Charlottesville, VA. Five great grandchildren, Presley Hendrix, Parker Hendrix, Pruitt Hendrix, Canaan Campbell and Sami Tait Campbell. Two brothers, John Kolb and Donald Kolb and three sisters, Patty Wiley (Lowell), Julie Tiblier (Jerry) and Janet Albriton (Doug). Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 9, 2025 from the Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson with Reverend Stephen Burrell officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service.
