Susan Leigh Chapman Brown Martin Graham, a woman of boundless courage, quiet strength, and deep love, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Sunday July 27, 2025 at 5:00 pm. She was surrounded by her cherished, children and loving husband.
Susan was the only child of Charles Jefferson Chapman and Catherine Lucille Whitehead, born on February 8, 1951, into a family that cherished resilience, independence, and compassion. She carried those values with her throughout her life, especially in her fierce and unrelenting battle with cancer—a fight she faced minute by minute with bravery and determination, never surrendering her spirit.
Susan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her loving husband David Graham and children: son Eric Brown, married to Theresa Brown; daughters Kimberley Brown Hembree, Angela Christine Ross, married to Timothy Ross; and Catherine (Katie Ann/Casey) Roberts, Elizabeth Ann Ammons married to Tony Ammons and David Graham. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Michael Brown, Brittany Hembree Gill, Alexander Standard, Alyssa Brown, Cora Martin, Quinten Hembree, Andru Ross, Isabella Roberts, Danielle Williams, Tim Ross Jr., Patrick Ross, Cera Ross, Stephanie Ammons, Paige Ammons, Seth Ammons, Kyle Graham, Haley Graham, Angela Graham and Everlyn Graham along with their spouses and many great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her love forward.
Susan loved to explore the world and never turned down a chance for an adventure—especially if it meant cruising with her grandchildren or traveling with her husband. She found joy in every journey, big or small.
At home, Susan was known for her warm heart and the delicious treats that filled her kitchen. Her strawberry lemonade cake and oatmeal scotchies became treasured family favorites, sweet symbols of her love and care. In quieter moments, she poured that same love into her crocheting, gifting handmade blankets to friends and family. Even in her final days, she continued working on a blanket until her hands could no longer hold the yarn.
Susan’s life was one of service, adventure, love, and tenacity. She may have left this world, but her essence remains in every stitch of those blankets, in every sweet bite of her baking, and in every memory carried by the people she loved so deeply.
Her memory will live on in our hearts, and her presence will be missed eternally.
