Gary Lee Chafin, age 77, of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away on July 28, 2025. Born on April 11, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Claude Chafin and the late Margaret Chafin.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Emmerson; his nephew, Jeff Adinaro; and nieces, Carole Lynch and Connie Culver.
He is survived by his children: Tanya (Barry) Chafin of Flowery Branch, James (Paula) Berry of Dahlonega, Jennifer Chafin of Toccoa, Scott (Ashley) Coker of Dahlonega, and Brittany (Josh) McMillian of Royston; his life partner, Judy Sanders; his siblings, Teresa (Larry) Burnett and Danny Chafin; and his special niece, Maggie Adinaro. He is also survived by his best friend, Alfred Summerour; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Gary was a true outdoorsman, known for his love of deer hunting and fishing. He felt most at home in the woods or by the water. Locally, he was beloved as “The Peanut Man,” serving up his small-town famous boiled peanuts at “PawPaw’s Peanuts” outside the feed store in Toccoa. His warm spirit, easy laugh, and storytelling will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend a little time in the woods or share a bag of boiled peanuts with someone you love, just as he would have wanted.
