Floyce Jane Herring Rose, aged 87 of Demorest, Georgia, left her earthly body and saw Jesus face to face on July 29, 2025.
She was born July 3, 1938, in Meridian, Mississippi to Inez Taylor Herring and W.B. Herring. She was predeceased by both parents and her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert (Bob) Rose; her sisters Alice Andrews and Sue Parks, brother Felix Herring, in-laws Jim Rose, Jack Rose, Betty and Bedford Thompson, Basil King, Thad Andrews, and Elaine Herring. She grew up in Sidon, Greenwood, and Grenada, Mississippi. She was introduced to her husband Bob on his 23rd birthday by his sister, Betty, and they married 5 months later. They lived in Ohio, Germany, Michigan, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Tennessee, and finally Georgia.
Floyce was a beautiful singer her entire life singing soprano in church solos and in every church choir wherever they lived. She was a member of the choral groups Harmony in Greenwood, Mississippi and Grace Notes at Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia, Georgia. She was an avid Bible scholar as well as a founding member of Explorers Bible Study in Greenwood, Mississippi.
In Georgia, Floyce was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and became close to the members of her Good News Sunday School Class and ladies’ community Bible study group. She was a faithful woman and served the Lord in all she did.
Floyce was a prayer warrior, and whether you knew her personally or not, you have likely benefited from her specific prayers. She was also a wonderful cook and kept a spotless house her entire life, even ironing pillowcases and handkerchiefs for Bob. When her four daughters were young, she often sewed their Sunday dresses as well as styled their hair with Dippity-do and bobbie pins every Saturday night. Her fried chicken was the first thing to disappear at church potlucks.
Floyce truly embodied most of the qualities of the woman described in Proverbs 31, with perhaps the main qualities being found in verses 26-27 (NIV): “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
She is survived by her four daughters: Terri (Mike) Kirby of Brandon, MS; Becky (Dr. Holton) King of Mount Airy, GA; Jill (Chris) Chandler of Georgetown, TX; and Dr. Jana Rose (Dave Wehrstein) of Demorest, GA; sister Ada King of Greenwood, MS; brother Dub (Donna) Herring of Picayune, MS; in-laws Irene Herring of Biloxi, MS, Herb (Jane) Parks of Grenada, MS, Mary Edna Rose of Baton Rouge, LA; Bill (Carolyn) Rose of Holcomb, MS; and Ben (Mary) Rose of Lauderdale, MS; 11 treasured grandchildren: Emily (Joeie) Tate, Tara (Ryan) Spencer, Thomas Kirby (fiancé Hannah Chipman), Erin (Josh) Hayward, Mitchell (Margaret Anne) King, Haley (Garrison) Brown, Carter King, Kevin Chandler (fiancé Monica Beckett), Eric (Lauren) Chandler, Ava Wehrstein, and Jake Wehrstein; along with 15 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Dr. Brian James officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bob.
