Elizabeth Louise (Kocsis) Peck

Obituary Date: Friday, July 11, 2025

Elizabeth Louise (Kocsis) Peck, 80, of Gainesville, GA, passed away on July 11, 2025 with her niece Tracey and nephew Robert at her side.

Elizabeth, known to friends and family as Betty, grew up with her sister Patricia Jean (Kocsis) Slover and their parents Elizabeth Catherine (Simon) Kocsis and Joseph Michael Kocsis in New Brunswick, NJ. Betty and Patricia remained close throughout their lives, sharing a love for family, holidays, dogs, decorating, and Hawaii. Especially Hawaii!

Married to Richard Edwin Peck on January 16, 1971, Betty and Dick lived in New Jersey, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Georgia over the course of their marriage. They loved to travel, both internationally to countries like England and Switzerland, as well as throughout the United States. Betty’s favorite destination? Hawaii, of course, which they traveled to seven times!

Betty worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a personal secretary before starting a daycare in her home. Eventually she went to work for Life Span School & Daycare in Pennsylvania as a preschool assistant teacher. She was playfully referred to as “Sarge” by her colleagues - all she had to do was give the children a look, and they knew to fall in line!

Of course, Betty was not without a fun side. She even decided, at age 60, to get tattooed. A palm tree adorned her shoulder, and she had a hibiscus flower on her ankle.

Hosting family for holidays with a beautifully decorated home was among Betty’s favorite things. Thanksgiving at her home in Pennsylvania was an event to remember. A long table ran from the dining room into the living room, seating everyone together amidst her Christmas decorations, which always included an extravagantly decorated tree - sometimes more than one! Laughter and love would fill the house on those wonderful days.

Betty cherished her Hungarian roots as well, which of course included desserts like kolache. She had a sweet tooth, and enjoyed strawberry shortcake for her 80th birthday.

Remaining to cherish Betty’s memory are her husband, Richard; nieces Tracey and Kelly and their families; nephews Robert and Harold; five grandnieces and grandnephews; three great-grandnephews; cousins around the country; and close friends Carol, Jen, Donna, Joy, Marge, Diana, Mary, Cathy, Gail, Shirley, and others.

Preceding Betty in death are her parents Elizabeth and Joseph and her sister Patricia.

No formal services will be held and at the family’s request her remains have been cremated. Betty has asked that she be with the ashes of Max, her Schnauzer, and Duncan, her adopted Scottish Terrier.
