Betty "Sarge" Joan Herring

Betty Joan Herring “Sarge”, age 78, of Buford, GA passed away on Monday, July 8, 2025.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ruth Land; sisters, Patricia and Martha.  Ms. Herring is survived by her son, Toby Herring of Buford, GA; granddaughter, Allison Herring (Garrick Swartz) of Arizona; Niece, Tammy (Dale) Woody; nephew, Ricky (Renee) Carswell; numerous extended family and friends.

Betty, “Sarge”, was born February 27, 1947 in Franklin, NC.  She was a veteran of the United States Women’s Army Corps.  Betty, “Sarge”, was a member and officer of the American Legion Post 127 Sugar Hill, and she was a former member and officer of Bikers Against Child Abuse Hooch Chapter.

She was fiercely dedicated to the BACA mission of empowering abused children and American Legion’s mission of supporting this country’s veterans and their families, but most of all, she was devoted to her son, Toby.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 127 will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at GA National Cemetery in Canton, GA with Derek Dugan officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 3 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 127, 6196 Suwanee Dam Rd, Sugar Hill, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to American Legion Post 127, Sugar Hill, GA or to Hooch Chapter B.A.C.A. of Georgia.
