James Herbert Dean

Mr. James Herbert Dean, age 72 of Sweetgum Road, Toccoa passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at the Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Frank Phillip Dean and Whitman Fay Smith Dean, he was born September 24, 1952 in Stephens County, Georgia where he had lived all his life.  He retired from Coats and Clark with 27 years of service as a maintenance technician and later worked for Eaton Aerospace for several years and retired from there due to his health.  He was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 12 and continued to be strong in his faith.  He loved working on Old School Chevrolets, loved racing and gardening.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Dean and Mary Dean and by three brothers, John Dean, Thomas William Dean and Edwin Frank Dean.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Nancy Kelley Dean; two sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Dean of Toccoa and James H. Dean, Jr. and Kimberly of Martin; daughter, Carrie Dean  of Toccoa; grandchildren, Chelsea Dean, Britney Dean and Marissa Dean; sisters and brother-in-law, Gladys Bolmon of Toccoa, Fay and Dan Rickman of Toccoa, Sara Ruth Kinney of Mt. Airy and Rebecca Bohannon of Eastanollee; sister-in-law, Geraldine Dean of Lavonia; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, 2 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Curtis Long officiating.  The following gentlemen and lady will serve as pallbearers, Freddie Kelley, Wendall Kelley, Christopher Dean, James Norris, Marissa Dean and Clint Sanders.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. James Herbert Dean.
