Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Joe Jenkins Hewell, III, age, 65 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Mr. Hewell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, a son of the late Joe Jenkins and Mary Linda Swick Hewell. Mr. Hewell retired from the Gwinnett County Board of Education and was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a faithful follower of Christ. Even becoming Deacon at his local church before the age of 20. He grew up in northeast Atlanta and from the very early age of 13 was already actively involved in the family business. Growing up he had a deep love of baseball and became a huge Braves fan. He attended the University of Georgia, joining some fraternities and even being the team mascot for a period of time. He remained a loyal Georgia Bulldog fan for life. He married Teresa Huntsinger in 1983 at Peachtree Baptist Church with a big celebration of union. He worked for the Gwinnett County BOE and raised his family in Buford, GA. He was an avid hunter and truly loved the outdoors. He found true peace in the mountains and relaxing by Lake Chatuge. He was a proud father, and could not say enough about his two sons. But he truly enjoyed watching his five grandchildren play and his time spent with them. One of his favorite Bible verses was Hebrew 4: 14-16. And from these words may we pray God will give His mercy and grace for whatever the circumstances and he have eternal peace with our Lord. He will fondly be remembered by those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Huntsinger Hewell, Jefferson, Georgia; son, Jason Hewell (Stacey), Jefferson, Georgia, Eric Hewell (Ashlin), Jefferson, Georgia; five grandchildren, Madison, Emersyn, Coleson, Kinsley and Hadley; one brother, Billy Hewell, Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 1 PM in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Booher officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM at the funeral home.
