Charles “Tommy” Townsend, 87, of Cumming passed away peacefully on Sunday June 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born March 28, 1938, Tommy lived most of his life in Forsyth County. He was a hardworking man who spent his life in construction, building not just homes, but a strong foundation for his family and everyone who knew him. Tommy was a true outdoorsman. He loved to fox hunt, rabbit hunt, and coon hunt. Hunting wasn’t just a hobby—it was something he enjoyed sharing with others. He proudly taught many people how to hunt, and those memories will live on in the stories and traditions passed down through generations. He also loved racing and always had a passion for anything that involved speed and excitement.
Tommy was a great father and a proud “Papa.” He was steady, loving, and always there when someone needed him. His family meant the world to him, and he was happiest when they were all together, laughing, telling stories, or just spending time with one another.
He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Lula Townsend; his daughter, Tammy Townsend; and his son-in-law, Danny Duff. We take comfort in knowing they are together again.
Tommy leaves behind his daughter, Lisa Duff; his son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Melanie Townsend; his grandchildren, Darren and Kim Duff, and Dana and Brendan Murphy; and his great-grandchildren, Terence and Connor Murphy, and Amy Duff. His love will live on in each of them.
Tommy’s life was full of love, family, and the simple joys of being outside and teaching others. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rodney Pilcher and Rev. Donnie Nix will officiate. Interment will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday June 24 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to help offset final expenses.
