Scott Baldwin Culpepper

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 8, 2025

Scott Baldwin Culpepper, 62, of Atlanta, passed away on June 8, 2025.

Scott was born on November 30, 1962, in Smyrna, Tennessee, the son of Elese Baldwin Culpepper and the late George Larry Culpepper. After graduating from Chamblee High School in 1982, he went on to pursue a technical education that reflected his mechanical aptitude and love of learning. He completed certifications in aviation for airframe, powerplant, and maintenance technology from Atlanta Technical College. He also completed a program for certification in computer support from Georgia Piedmont Technical College.  Scott applied his knowledge in various aviation jobs at Gulfstream Aerospace, Precision Avionics and Instruments, and Dekalb-Peachtree Airport. His passion for aviation extended beyond his career; he also held a private pilot license and treasured his time in the air.

A man of many interests, Scott was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, cycling, and connecting with nature. He especially loved camping with family and friends during his many years as a member of Unicoi Springs Camp Resort.

Scott was known for being friendly, loyal and kind-hearted. He had a gift for conversation, a talent for hands-on problem solving, and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Scott was proud to be a Shriner and a member of the Chamblee-Sardis Masonic Lodge. He was a lifelong member of St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta. His involvement in these organizations reflected his commitment to community, service, and fellowship.

He is survived by his mother, Elese Baldwin Culpepper; his sister, Tami Culpepper Coleman (Bob) of Gainesville, Georgia; his nieces, Margaret Coleman Mundhenk of Chandler, Arizona and Elizabeth Coleman Evans (Alex) of Sugar Hill, Georgia; his great-nephews, Oliver Mundhenk and Cole Evans; and his great-niece, Melody Mundhenk.

A memorial service will be held on June 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gainesville First United Methodist Church Chapel with a reception to follow in the Gathering Room.

Donations may be made to St. James United Methodist Church at 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, Georgia 30342, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
