Betty Jane Ladd (nee Elrod), 86, of Gainesville passed away on June 21, 2025.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel in Gainesville.
Betty was a native of Gainesville who grew up in the Gainesville Mill village neighborhood. She later moved to North Hall with her husband, Lawton B. Ladd, where they lived for most of her life. She and Lawton owned and operated Ladd Alignment Service on Thompson Bridge Road for many years, and Betty later worked as a poultry inspector and a counselor for intellectually challenged youth.
But Betty’s most cherished role was as a mother of four children, grandmother to eight, and great grandmother to 11. Her kitchen was an all-you-can-eat buffet of lovingkindness and good country food. Friends, relatives, and neighbors were always welcome. And no one got to leave hungry or without a hug. Her grandchildren referred to her house as “Kids’ Paradise” and only left kicking and screaming.
Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by her parents Richard A. Elrod and Margie Dyer Elrod, Brother Patrick Elrod, and husband Lawton Ladd. She is survived by her four children Lawana Peterson (James), Kip Ladd (Nancy Glenn), Cindy Ladd, and Tracy Grindle (Ken), and her sister Magaret Ann Nichol.
