Obituary: Wadynne Eugenia Lastinger Stone June 24, 1929 – June 19, 2025

Wadynne Eugenia Lastinger Stone- “Jean” - was a beloved mother, granny, great-granny, sister, and friend, passed away at the age of 95 on June 19, 2025 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Her long and beautiful life was marked by faith, love, resilience, and a deep devotion to her family.

Born in Hoboken, Georgia on June 24, 1929, Jean grew up surrounded by her 4 siblings and the values of kindness, hard work, and faith—principles that would guide her throughout her life. She married James Richard Stone and together they built a life full of love and laughter, raising 2 daughters, Ruth and Bonnie, and creating a home where everyone felt welcome.

Jean had a genuine strength, a quick wit, and a nurturing spirit. She was known for her superb cooking and filling meals. Whether in the kitchen preparing biscuits (buttermilk and sweet potato) for family gatherings, or offering wisdom in the form of a fruitcake, she was a steady and comforting presence to all who knew her.

A lifelong Baptist church member, Jean dedicated much of her time to serving others while serving Jesus. Her legacy is one of generosity, perseverance, and deep familial love.  Jean loved to crochet, work jigsaw and word search puzzles, watch her stories on tv, and sit by her window to watch birds of all kinds.  Spending time with her Joy Class at Hebron Baptist Church was always a highlight of her weeks and the countless lunches and friends she found there made her heart happy.  She continued to call and check on friends and family regularly (sometimes repeatedly within a short timespan) until her recent illness.

She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Kirby Ganas (who she lived with for the last 20 years), grandchildren Jennifer Zarka (Tony), Jeff Ganas, and Erin Elliott; great-grandchildren Rachael Armstrong, Taylor Ganas, Jonathan Ganas, Holden Berg, and Noah Berg, and sister-in-law Betty Lastinger, along with many nieces and nephews and her Sweet Sadie, all of whom will carry forward her memory with pride and love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Seaborn and Julia Lastinger, husband James Stone, daughter Ruth Elliott, siblings Bea Turrentine, Joyce Williams, Jim Lastinger, and Barbara Bradford, as well as grandson Jason Ganas.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on June 23, 2025 10:00 am at Hebron Baptist Church 202 Hebron Church Road, Dacula, Georgia. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and share in honoring her remarkable life.  Her ashes will be placed with her husband in Jacksonville, Florida on a later date.
