Scottie “Scott” Eugene Cantrell, 55, of Gainesville, GA, passed away on June 19, 2025. He finally decided he’d had enough of this world and has officially relocated to the Great Mountain Getaway in the sky—where the views are always perfect, the jokes are flying, and Godiva, his one true best friend, was waiting at the gates, tail wagging.
Scott was a professional at two things: raising a little hell and loving fiercely. A headstrong man to the core (and proud of it), Scott lived life on his own terms—and expected you to keep up. He was a jokester through and through, with a talent for messing with people in a way that somehow made them love him more. He gave people hell… but the kind you secretly looked forward to.
His happy place was always the mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee—a second home where he felt most alive and at peace. He also had a deep love for cars, especially his recently acquired Jeep, affectionately known as “Papa Smurf.” Even as his health brought challenges in recent years, Scott’s spirit never dulled. His quick wit, sarcasm, and unmatched ability to find humor in anything stayed with him to the very end.
He is survived in stubbornness and spirit by his loving wife, Kathy Cantrell; his children, Kristy Hopkins (John), Anthony Layne (Kymie) and Davey Cantrell (Jessica); his pride and joy grandkids, Alyssa Hopkins, Kyndall Layne, Jesse Cantrell, Claire Hopkins and Kayden Layne; and his sister, Tammy McClure, along with nieces, nephews, and best friends Sean and Laura Frisbee as well as a whole crew of friends who still aren’t sure whether to laugh or cry—so they’ll probably do both.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenda and Homer Cantrell, and his loyal four-legged soulmate, Godiva.
Scott was a firm believer that if you can’t say something nice… at least make it funny. His memory will live on in every sarcastic remark, every family roast, and every perfectly timed smart comment.
In his honor, share a laugh, visit the mountains, and don’t be afraid to stir the pot—you know he would’ve.
