Florence Rose Helfer, age 93, of Winder, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Born on August 31, 1931, in Winter, Wisconsin, Florence was raised on her family’s dairy farm, where she learned the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance. She later moved to Illinois, attended Trinity College, and in 1955 married Harold Gene Helfer. Together they raised four sons: David Helfer (Lora), Dan Helfer (Freddie), Ben Helfer, and James Helfer (Andrea).
Florence worked for many years as the office manager and biller in a gynecology practice, where she was admired for her compassion, professionalism, and dedication. After retiring, she and Harold relocated in 2016 from Villa Park, Illinois—a suburb of Chicago—to Winder, Georgia. After Harold’s passing the year after their move, she lived her remaining years on a small 30-acre farm alongside her eldest son Dave and wife Lora, with her extended family visiting her there regularly.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Harold Helfer and is survived by her four sons, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren:
• Dave & Lora Helfer (Georgia): Daniela (Blake), Alexandra (Alex), Adam (Sandra)
• Dan & Freddie Helfer (Texas): Dan Jr., Elizabeth
• Ben Helfer (Georgia)
• James & Andrea Helfer (Illinois): Ella, Ava, Nate, Eme
Florence’s life was a testament to quiet strength, unwavering Christian faith, and a deep devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness, and the enduring love she shared with those closest to her.
Florence will be laid to rest at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens in Buford, Georgia. In accordance with her family’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held in one of their homes in lieu of a funeral home service.
