Mr. Douglas Wayne “Doug” Powers, age 68 of the Hunter’s Creek Road Community in Toccoa passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.
A son of Mrs. Johnnie Jurrell Bell Powers and the late Wallace T. Powers, he was born June 10, 1957 in Toccoa where he had lived all his life. He was a graduate of Stephens County High School, Class of 1975. He was employed with Milliken for 15 years and then moved on to furniture and wood working career for a number of years until his early retirement in 2008 due to health conditions. He had a lot of family and friends. He loved fishing, football and was a big Georgia Bulldogs fan. He also loved NASCAR races and WWE Wrestling and Classic Cars. He always enjoyed being outdoors anytime he had the chance.
He was preceded in death by his father, the late Wallace T. Powers and by his brother-in-law, David L. Russell.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Johnnie Bell Powers of the home; sister, Donna Russell of Toccoa; brother, Jack Powers of Toccoa; niece, Autumn Russell Cox and husband Kevin of Toccoa; nephew, John DeWitt of the home; great-niece and nephew, Warner Cox and Quincy Cox; several cousins and other family members. Willing to help others, he was an organ donor, donating his eyes to the Georgia Eye Bank.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 14, 2025, 4 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Paul Garrison officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist in the final expenses for Doug.
