Betty Sue Tanner Long

Obituary Date: Monday, June 9, 2025

Heaven gained a beloved angel when Betty Sue Tanner Long of Gainesville, GA peacefully passed away at the age of 74 on June 9, 2025 of an extended illness.  She entered eternal peace in her home, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born in 1951 in Gainesville, GA, the daughter of Pauline and Ernest Tanner.  Graduating from South Hall High School in 1969, Betty was cherished by all who knew her from her early years and on.

Betty built a legacy of love and faith, along with an integrity that will endure throughout the communities and the people whose lives she touched.  She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and frequently attended Calvary Baptist Church, fostering an incomparable kindness through her love of God.  Her passion for faith was as resounding as the hymns she sang during her participation in the choir.  Her unmatched virtue went beyond the church community, and she retired from Wayne Farms after 39 years of highly respected work.  Her time there was marked by unwavering diligence and heartfelt devotion each and every day.

Her affinity for travel further displayed her love of God and the world He created, as she had the pleasure of traveling across the U.S., Canada, Italy and Africa.  Her favorite destination was Hawaii, and she will carry the beauty of that place to the gates of heaven with her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Long; mother, Pauline Tanner; father, Ernest Tanner; brother, David Tanner.

Remaining to cherish Betty's memory are siblings, Sheldon (Linda) Tanner of Hamilton, GA, Linda Tanner of Gainesville, GA, Kathy (Gerald) Parks of Gainesville, GA, Pam Tanner of Gainesville, GA, Ricky Tanner of Gainesville, GA, Janie Savage of Lula, GA, Sandra (Jeff) Ozment of Buford, GA, Judy (Bill) Bates of Pendergrass, GA; nephews, Adam Scoggins, Chad Smith, Zachary Tanner; nieces, Taylor Ozment, Tory Ozment, Tatum Ozment, Adrianne Savage Boone.

A special thank you to Northeast Georgia Hospice, Patricia Boren, Sykwana Lavant, and Kerri Nolan, who made the road back to God's kingdom one lined with the sweetest and most peaceful of flowers.

Visitation for Betty will be Wednesday June 11, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday June 12, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Raymond Latty officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
