Shirley Floyd Smith

Obituary Date: Friday, June 6, 2025

Mrs. Shirley Floyd Smith 88, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 6, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 8, 2025, in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Darryl Womack will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Born on March 25, 1937, in Madison, Ga, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Della Fowler Floyd. She was a loving and devoted wife to Paul Eugene “Gene” Smith for 69 years and a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren. The resilience, strength, courage and determination she displayed while dealing with her declining health after the loss of her husband in November was inspiring. She was a member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church and worked at several manufacturing plants through the years, including Barry Manufacturing and Chicopee, but most of her life was spent as a homemaker taking care of her family, including her in-laws Paul and Louise Smith, who lived with them. She enjoyed visiting with family, watching movies, and going on adventures with her devoted husband. They went on cruises, visited the beach or family on vacations, went to Washington DC, and had many wonderful adventures together.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Charles E. “Chuck” Smith, daughter, Robin Elizabeth Crain, grandson, Bradley Crain, her granddaughter, Tiffany Smith, her father and mother-in-law, Paul Y. and Louise Cantrell Smith, brother-in-law Hoyt Smith, sisters-in-law Betty Stacey, Emma Miller, and Peggy Evans, parents Thomas and Della Fowler Floyd, siblings Billie Floyd and Franklin Floyd, and sisters Dorothy Leonard and Tommye Grassle. She loved her little dog, Angel, who will miss her momma very much.
Shirley is survived by her grandchildren Brian and Anna Crain of Toccoa, Joy and Adam Walker, great grandchildren Alex Walker, Cassidy Crain, and Mary Beth Crain, daughter-in-law Donna Smith, brothers in law, Danny Evans (Mary), and George Smith, and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
