David Ware, 79, of Dawsonville died June 4, 2025. Capt. David Ware was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran and was the first helicopter pilot for the Atlanta Police Department. He retired from the Louisiana State Police where he was honored as Trooper of the Year for his heroics in the line of duty.
He worked law enforcement in Cobb County, became a helicopter pilot for the GA Department of Natural Resources and after he retired from that job, he became a Medivac Pilot. David lived a life of service and many people viewed him as a hero and he was also an author of 8 novels. He loved the LSU Tigers and his cats.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandy Jones Ware, children Tamara Ware Stevens and Brian Ware, grandchildren Meredith Stevens-Stanforth, James Stevens, Luke Stevens, Anslie Ware and Averie Ware, son-in-law Matt Stevens, daughter-in-law Stephanie Yeager Ware, grandson-in-law Corporal Ethan Stanforth, and his brother, Mike Ware and dozens of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Dave’s ashes will be interred on Monday, June 16th at 9:00 am at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with full Air Force Military Honors. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
