Betty Jane Smith Murphy

Mrs. Betty Jane Smith Murphy, age 68, of Pendergrass, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Born in Waynesville, North Carolina, Betty was the daughter of the late George Vernon Smith and Addie West Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Smith.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love for her family knew no bounds. No sacrifice was ever too great—she poured her heart into caring for those she loved. Whether tending to her vibrant flower garden or, in later years, enjoying her favorite game, Gardenscapes, when her health limited her time outdoors, Betty found joy in the simple things.

Her life was marked by kindness and a willingness to help anyone in need. She stayed busy, always looking for ways to serve others, and she made a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Betty Jane Smith Murphy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years Gene Murphy; children Rebecca Crane (Danny), Misty Niebaum, Daniel Murphy (Amanda); siblings Martha Boiling, Lee "Pokey" Smith (Rita), Susan Gaddis (Roger Dale); grandchildren Kenny Langston (Ginger), Brandon Crane, Ricky Garrett, Sarah Garrett (Nate), Brayden Mattox, Emily Murphy, Stiles Murphy, Drake Murphy, Hannah Briscoe, Zeke Briscoe; special friend Sue; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends to celebrate and remember Betty on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
