Emily Cooper Kimzey, 79, of Gainesville passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Sam; his children, Zackary, Ella, Ariya, Miles; daughter, Meghan Peacock; sister, Catherine Chao.
Emily was a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and crafter. Emily was born to Edgar A. Cooper and Doris J. Cooper in Manhattan, Kansas on May 26, 1946, the third of four children. She met her husband while both were attending the University of Kansas, where she was a sister in the Sigma Kappa sorority. Emily and Ron loved and supported each other as spouses and best friends for fifty-seven years.
She taught pre-school and elementary school for many years and, upon retiring from education, she owned and operated two needlepoint stores, the second with her daughter Meghan. Emily was a talented fiber artist, be it needlepoint, rug hooking, knitting, or weaving. She was a member of The National Needlepoint Association and the Dogwood chapter of the ATHA rug hooking guild and she loved sharing her skills and knowledge with those around her. She was an arts enthusiast, enjoying music, reading, and theatre, even serving as President of the Atlanta Children’s Theater Guild.
