David Stephen Allen, age 69, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025.
A friend is found at every turn. David Stephen Allen lived by this motto. Born into a service-oriented family, David truly was in step with this idea.
David was born August 29 1955, in Augusta, Ga to the late Lydia N and Calvin F Allen Jr. He was a robust young fellow with twinkling blue eyes and an interest in everything. His Grandfather, Calvin, would take him to various train stations. We used to love to go to Thalman, GA, to see the beautiful passenger trains fly by at top speeds to exotic sounding locations. It founded a lifetime love of the rails.
David was struck by a polio-like illness around age five. David and his parents fought the gait-altering process all his life. He did not back down from challenges. Despite having to expend twice as much energy to walk as you and I, he mustered through. He had his own entrance to the house. He would sneak out and ride his bike about a mile to Lanier Drive in and work there several nights a week. He worked for the Thompson Theater group for many years. Mr John Thompson was a mentor and friend. He worked for Holiday Inn and Baxter doing the night audit. He also worked for Marriott Pine Isle for 15 years before they closed. He returned to theater work and management until he retired. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1973. He attended Gainesville Jr. College. He dearly loved all his friends from a fulfilling life in Gainesville.
He is preceded in death by his parents. All of his Aunts and Uncles who loved him so much have passed. Several cousins survive and he loved them all without reserve. His sister Dr Jane Allen and husband Michael L. Schwab appreciate all the love and kindnesses of his family and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with the celebration of life to follow at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Special thanks to Sarah and David Sargent and family, Ralph Pardue, Bunny Dunagan, the staffs of The Resting Nest (and his special friend there Brandi), and Pruitt Hospice (especially Amie and Mary).
He would tell you: forget the barriers, go for it! Please take a moment to celebrate his life…
