Maryanne Downing

Maryanne Downing (Mimi), 83, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully Friday, May 23, 2025 surrounded by family.  Born in Pennsylvania on March 12, 1942, she was one of five siblings. After high-school, Maryanne started her career as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines. Shortly after, she married in 1965 and later moved to Georgia to raise their children:  Kristy, Ted and Bradley. Maryanne adored her children as they were her greatest joy. Aside from working as a legal secretary, she worked as the church secretary for First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville. Maryanne was a people person with strong values and a mama bear to heart.  Her later years were spent on the phone for hours talking to friends and family.  Her famous phrase among friends and family “there is something wrong with my I-Phone.”  She longed for the old fashion rotary phones.  All in good humor!  She was always willing to take others under her wing as she did the same with the Humane Society in adopting numerous cats and dogs. Maryanne was very proud of her children and adored her grandchildren.  Maryanne was instrumental in her capacity to care for her handicapped late son Bradley.  Not only did she have a love for her wigs, but enjoyed thrift stores and buying anything oldie but goodie. She was never one to surrender and her personality was strong with soft overtones. Her smile was big, her laugh was consuming and her heart was full. Surviving members are: Kristy and son-in-law [Michael, Ted and daughter in law [Tammy, her brothers Bruce and Johnny Dewer, grandchildren Julia, Jack and Morgan. The funeral service will be held at McKendree United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville on Tuesday, May 27 at 3:00 PM.
