Barbara Haynie Burel

Barbara Haynie Burel, age 88, of Buford, GA passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. She was preceded in death by parents, Clyde and Lavonia Haynie; brother, Billy J. Haynie; and sisters, Betty H. Davis and Bonnie Sue Haynie. Mrs. Burel is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Douglas Burel of Buford; son, Scott Douglas Burel and wife Beth Lynn Burel of Buford; grandchildren, Austin Douglas Burel and Lauren Elizabeth Burel; sisters-in-law, Joann Burel, Barbara Ethridge, and Dixie Williams; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Burel was born on May 13, 1937 in Sugar Hill, GA and graduated from Sugar Hill High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Douglas Burel, in 1957. Barbara worked in the insurance business for over forty years: for Safeco Insurance Company for ten years, State Farm Insurance Company; Buford Insurance Company, and Simpson Insurance Company, working for Jimmy Simpson for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1995. Barbara was active in all her son’s school functions, as well as Cub Scouts and the Band Booster Club at North Gwinnet High School. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church for forty years, where she was very active as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, VBS Director, choir member, and UMW. She is now a member of Church on the Hill in Sugar Hill where she is a member of Early Bird Sunday School Class and the Keenagers Senior Group. Barbara loved sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. Her main love though was her God and her family, and she them all unconditionally.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Hansard and Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 25 from 10:30 a.m. until time for the service at 3:00 p.m.
