Richard Delano Palmer

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025

OnTuesday, May 20th 2025, Richard Delano Palmer of Hall County peacefully and willingly crossed the finish line of life leaving a wake of success behind him.  Born on November 7, 1940, Richard was the first of three sons fortunate enough to call Dewey Palmer (a Jesus loving, Bible living Southern Baptist preacher) and Christine Palmer (a Jesus loving, Bible living, sweeter than homemade peach ice cream preacher’s wife)  “Dad” and “Mom”.  The first in his family to graduate from college, Richard found success in Gainesville’s world-renowned and nickname derived poultry industry where he helped start, build, and grow Fieldale Farms Corporation before retiring at the age of 52.

However, despite corporate success.  Richard’s legacy will forever be remembered by the love he gave to family and friends, and the lives he touched humbly, quietly and generously. He loved when love wasn’t required. He advised by example. He gave without limit.

He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents Rev. Dewey and Christine Palmer; and his wife Glenda Palmer. He will greet at the gates of heaven with a cheeky grin those that he leaves behind: daughter, Gail Palmer; stepson, Steve Cornett; brothers, Barry (Elaine) Palmer and Larry (Carolyn) Palmer; grandchildren, Kyle (Whitney) Cornett, Austin (Whitney) Palmer, Chris (Ashley) Cornett and Kim (Derek) Owen ; great-grandchildren, Kynley Cornett, Kamden Cornett, Ridley Owen, Rawlings Owen, Shep Palmer, Chase Palmer, Graham Palmer, and Beckham Cornett; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Memorial Park South Chapel with entombment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Milton Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Eagle Ranch (www.eagleranch.org) in his honor and by his example.
