Kenny Pope left this earth for Glory on May 15, 2025. He was born in Austell, Georgia at Cobb General Hospital to Mike and Sharon (Joiner) Pope. Kenny is lovingly remembered by his high school sweetheart and darling bride of 31 years, Teri Norris Pope.
Kenny graduated from Lithia Springs High School and began his 20 year career at Bell South then AT&T in 1988 in the mailroom. He worked his way into management and completed his career on the team responsible for creating online billing and payments. Kenny fell from his roof and became a paraplegic in 2008 causing chronic pain that forced him to retire from full time work. In 2022, Kenny became the Chief Financial Officer for M4 Institute, a ministry that shows mercy as Jesus instructed in Luke 10:37 through short term mission teams that support long term positive impact to under served people. His M4 work re-energized him. He loved that his number crunching supported the calling of his dear friend, Terrell Davis, M4 Institute Executive Director. Terrell and Kenny were truly co-laborers for Christ and made each other sharper and stronger, as described in Proverbs 27:17.
Kenny was a member of Christ Place Church since he and Teri were married there in 1994. He served there faithfully in many ways; Bible Fellowship Teacher, Prayer Ministry Coordinator, Student Ministry Team Leader, Men’s Group Leader. Kenny and Teri led International Mission Trips to support IMB Missionary Families serving in Central and Eastern Europe. These trips were Vacation Bible Style weeks for children and student camp style retreats for middle and high school students. They lead 20 trips to 7 countries over 11 years. Kenny and Teri loved serving God’s front-line workers. It blessed them in many ways including giving them almost children as they became guardians to Jonathan and Daniel Stockwell whose parents Mick and Dalese Stockwell were missionaries in Ukraine. He was serving at Christ Place until his last day. He was a Deacon, a mentor and a member of the Prayer Support Team that counsels and supports people seeking God. Kenny and Teri co-lead a Young Marrieds small group with their dear friends Dave and Karen Channell. He was the male volunteer Leader for Regeneration, part of the Care + Recovery Discipleship Ministry that helps people focus on their personal sanctification and discipleship so they can heal from life’s hurts biblically in authentic community.
Kenny always enjoyed video games starting with Pong then Galaga to Halo and PGA Golf Games. He had to pivot after his paralysis and switch his athletic hobbies of tennis and golf. He found new hobbies of target shooting and enjoyed gunsmith work too. His latest hobby was baking and blessed many with his biscoff cookies, red velvet cake, pistachio brittle and baguettes.
Remaining to cherish Kenny’s memory in addition to Teri are his cousin Greg Pope of Dacula, Georgia, Eric and Carol Pope of Malone, Florida; Mother-in-Law, Jean Norris of Gainesville; Sister and Brother-in-Law Toni (Norris) and Saxon Dasher of Decatur, Georgia; cherished nephew Lanier and wife Rachel (Harp) Dasher of Washington, D.C. and treasured nephew Harris Dasher of Roswell, Georgia; Father’s wife Cathy Pope of Griffin; along with Aunt Patty Wheeler, Uncles Jimmy Joiner and Harold Joiner and Cousins. Preceding Kenny in death are both of his parents, Mike and Sharon (Joiner) Pope; Father-in-law Tony Norris; Paternal Grandparents Doxie and Ada Ruth (Mabry) Pope. Maternal Grandparents James and Lila (Allen) Joiner. Paternal Uncle Larry Pope and maternal Aunt Linda Lentz.
Kenny relied on his faith and often said “its because of who you are Lord Jesus and what You’ve done that I can live contentedly in my wheelchair.” His self-proclaimed lame humor made him approachable. His greatest goal in life was to allow our Lord Jesus Christ to work in Him and through Him.
