Homer Stuart Saunders, Jr., age 82, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025.
Homer was born on March 7, 1943 to Homer Sr. and Carolyn (St. Clair) Saunders of Ivor, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Richmond after attending his beloved Wingate University in North Carolina. He spent 35 years as a dedicated real estate agent in the Atlanta area.
Homer married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Magette, in 1964, and together they raised two children. He loved going to dozens of sporting events each year, was a lifetime connoisseur of his favorite southern delicacy, barbeque, and Homer’s favorite all time personal activity was saltwater fishing. He took cruise vacations with Peggy so often that it seemed like they almost had a semi-permanent residence on cruise ships. In all, they visited five continents together and made friends around the world. Speaking of his love of sports, Homer’s saying was, “If they keep score, I’ll watch.” Homer was truly a friend to all. He enjoyed life, his family and supported the deaf community.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy; his children H Stuart Saunders III (Kimberly) and Amy Louise (Saunders) Steinbrink (Scott), and granddaughter Audrey Grace Saunders. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Homer will be held at Flanigan Funeral Home and Crematory at 4400 South Lee Street, Buford, Georgia at 3pm on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Visitation will precede the service at 2pm. A Celebration of Life is planned in Virginia later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Agape Deaf Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia or to your favorite charity.
