Pauline Rosalee Swafford Thompson, age 80 of Clarkesville, passed away May 6, 2025.
Born in Oconee County, South Carolina on March 4, 1945, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Gervis Ray Swafford and the late Ethel James Swafford Webb. Mrs. Thompson worked at Clarkesville Garment and Habersham Mills earlier in her career and later worked as a custodian for the Habersham Board of Education. She loved gospel music and sharing her gift of singing with the Gospel Fellowship Singers. Mrs. Thompson was a caregiver. She and her late husband Gene were instrumental in raising their grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will affectionately be remembered for her delicious cooking, especially her banana pudding and potato salad. Mrs. Thompson loved spending time with her family and in also enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her husband Alvin Eugene “Gene” Thompson, son Timothy Eugene Thompson, brothers Martin Swafford, Jim Swafford, R.E. Webb, Arnold Webb, Calvin Webb, Garland Webb, Lawrence Webb, Ralph Webb and Lee Webb, grandson Mitchell Thompson and brother in law Jimmy Moore.
Survivors include daughter Sherry Thompson of Clarkesville, grandchildren Heather Kirkum of Commerce, Robert Kirkum (Kathleen Lavallee) of Seattle, WA, Chastity Love of Hartwell, Timothy Love of Hartwell and Dawson Simmons of Clarkesville, great grandchildren Madison, Dani and Timmy Thompson, Zachary and Andi Lovell and Keagan Fortson, brothers Cecil Swafford (Linda) of Westminster, SC, Buck Swafford (Patricia) of Clarkesville, Glen Swafford (Gay) of Seneca, SC, Albert Webb of Walhalla, SC and Clinton Webb of Tennessee, sisters Mildred Moore of Westminster, SC, Hazel Orr (Dennis) of Westminster, SC, Judy Webb of Walhalla, SC, Maebell Holbrooks (Jr.) of Salem, SC and Estelle Keener of North Carolina, sisters in law Alicia Swafford of Jefferson, Elenora Swafford of Westminster, SC, Linda Swafford of Westminster, SC, and Allene Bell of Clarkesville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Providence Baptist Church, with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6-8 PM.
