Evelyn Louise Murphy Smith, "Mema"; passed away peacefully in her sleep and returned to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; at the age of 95 in her home in Hall County on May 2, 2025.
Louise was one of 11 children born to Lemuel Waite and Nettie Mae Dennard Murphy. She was raised in Southwest Atlanta in the Hapeville area and grew up and graduated from Hapeville High School in 1948. She was employed at Rich's Dept. store in Atlanta when she met and soon after married Roland C. Smith on June 14, 1953. They moved their family to Gainesville, Ga. in 1957 where they raised their five children. Although they separated, she and Roland both were proud of the family they raised.
Louise in 1974 graduated from Lanier Vocational School's first Licensed Practical Nurse graduation class. She was then employed at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, or "Old" Hall County Hospital where she worked mostly all on night shift her whole career until she retired after thirty years. Though retired, she continued working part time until she was 84 years old. Her career of caring for her patients was a true "calling" for her and she always gave it 100% of her heart and soul. She touched many lives, patients and coworkers alike; and always left a lasting impression.
Louise's greatest love in life was her children. She always said having them was the best thing that she ever accomplished. They too love her greatly and will miss her shining light in their lives.
She was survived by her daughter Rolann Smith, her sons Roland C. Smith, Jr and his wife Debra, George Smith and his wife Becky, Gene Smith and his wife Regina, and Gary Smith and his wife Denise. She also left four grandchildren Geremy Sexton and his wife Nicole, Justin Smith and his wife Christy, Brittany Bonds and her husband Matt, and Brandon Smith and his wife Laura. Her greatest love was to also have known her nine great grandchildren, Geremy's Drake and Alex Sexton; Justin's Ella, Harper, and Grant Smith; Brittany's Eveleigh, Ensley, and Emrie Bonds; and Brandon's Kate Smith.
