Charles Russell Whitt, Sr, age 98, of Suwanee, GA, passed away on April 29, 2025. Russ was born to Frank Elmore Whitt and Louise Wynn on January 25, 1927 in Tazewell, VA. He grew up in Roanoke, VA and graduated from VPI (VA Tech). He married Emily Baird Pierce in August, 1950, and they were married for 63 years. They have four sons. Russ worked for 60 years for Factory Mutual Insurance mostly in Charlotte and Atlanta. After Emily’s death in 2014, he later married Amanda Bell in May, 2015. They were married nearly 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda, his four sons: Charles Whitt Jr (Susan), Stephen Whitt (Barbara), Curtis Whitt (Amy), Philip Whitt. And sister-in-law Faye Whitt of VA and her family.
And Grandchildren: Justin Whitt (Sahar), Sharon Whitt - deceased, Stephanie Herring (Brian), Shannon Gissendaner (Mitch), Jaclyn Barrett (Neil), Teresa Porter.
And Great-grandchildren: Samantha Whitt, Tyson Bittle, Tristan Herring, Brianna Mae Herring, Josiah Herring, Kairos Gissendaner, Filiz Gissendaner, Blaise Barrett, Elizabeth Wilson (Trey), Hunter Fetzner.
And Amanda’s children: Daniel Bell, Kevin Bell (Jolan), Keith Bell (Ann), and Tony Bell - deceased (Kathleen). Grandchildren are Dustin, Ethan, Ashlyn, Robbie, Ryan and Cory Bell.
A funeral service will be held at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens on Sunday, May 4 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation is prior to the service from 11:00-1:00. Burial follows at Eternal Hills Memory Garden in Snellville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Virginia Tech.
