James Henry Mealor

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 6, 2025

Mr. James Henry Mealor (Jim), age 88, of Commerce, Georgia, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, April 6th, 2025.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Margaret Swain Mealor; children Lynn East (Tim), Kathy Davies (Harold), Anne McDonald (Bill), Jim Mealor (Amy), and Brenda Tatum (Rick); 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister Virginia Barnes (Charlie).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary B. Mealor and Moody M. Mealor; his brothers, John D. Mealor and Billy F. Mealor; and his sister, Laura M. Chandler.

A veteran, Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He retired from General Motors in Doraville, Georgia, in 1997, after a long and dedicated career.

Jim was a godly man—a quiet pillar of faith whose life reflected humility, kindness, and unwavering devotion. He was a man of quiet strength and consummate integrity—dependable, hard-working, and selfless. He loved his family deeply and found joy in the simplest pleasures of life, especially spending time outdoors and working in his garden. Known for his modest and unassuming nature, he had a gentle humor and a remarkable ability to teach and share his skills with his children and grandchildren, whether it was building something with his hands or solving a practical problem.

One of his favorite hymns was Just a Closer Walk with Thee, a reflection of the deep and steady faith that carried him through life and shaped the man he was to those who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith and love, and a family who loves him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully ask that donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Agape Hospice Care – Clarke County, 1551 Jennings Mill Rd., Suite 2100 A., Watkinsville, GA 30677.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm p.m. at Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce, Ga. A private graveside service will follow, officiating minister, Pastor Mike Myers of Heritage Presbyterian Church, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
