James Douglas Bryant, 85, of Gainesville, after a long battle with multiple myeloma, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 24. Little & Davenport Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Bryant at the funeral home on Sunday, March 30 at 4:00 PM. Pastors Robby Williams and Earl Pirkle will officiate the service. The family will greet friends and relatives before the service, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Mr. Bryant, born October 10, 1939, was the son of Raymond Bryant and Clara Bryant Chandler. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Janet Bryant. Other survivors include daughter Jennifer (Derek) Snelling, son Wes (Amy) Bryant, and grandchildren Clara and Audrey Snelling and Kimball and Miles Bryant. Other survivors include sisters, Linda Shoaf and Sue (Jim) Gittens. Mr. Bryant's church family include members of Grace and Multiply Churches in Oakwood and Flowery Branch.
Mr Bryant served with the Gainesville and Hall County Schools in the band and choral departments as well as administrator at North Hall High School and Oakwood and Lula Elementary Schools. He also served as deacon and in the music ministry at Grace Baptist in Oakwood. He loved to travel and cherished times he was able to participate in short term mission trips to Tanzania, Uganda, Bolivia, Mexico and many other places. Hobbies included wood working, model trains, and clock repair. And most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
