Nanny Belva Jean Massey Marlow

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nanny Belva Jean Massey Marlow who peacefully passed away at home March 24, 2025 after her long hard-fought battle with breast cancer. A true embodiment of strength and kindness, Nanny Belva touched the lives of everyone she met with her gentle spirit and unwavering love. She was a beacon of hope and a source of comfort, always there to lend an ear or a helping hand. She was a woman of unwavering love and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and joy. She had a way of making everyone feel loved and special. We will miss her wisdom, her stories, her hugs, and her heart of gold more than words can say. Nanny Belva spent 79 wonderful years spreading love, joy, sarcasm, and sass to any and all around her.

Nanny Belva was born in Columbus to the late Sanford Lester and Janie Lee Walker Massey. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and retired from Blue Bell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyd Marlow.

Nanny Belva is survived by her daughters, SiDonna Odum of Alto and Sonya Hurt of Mt. Airy; sister, Debra Veal of Commerce; grandchildren, Carrie, Cassie, Trey and Gage; and great-grandchildren, Marlow, Tatum and Grady.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Friday, March 28 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. John Wayne Abernathy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
