“Carrie Mae (Danner) Harp, 88, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, in Athens, Georgia.
Born on January 5, 1937, in Danburg, Georgia, Carrie lived a life filled with love, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others. Carrie moved to Mullica Hill, New Jersey as an adolescent and later moved to Woodstown, New Jersey where she raised her family. In 1982, Carrie returned to Georgia and made Athens her home, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Carrie’s career began in various food processing plants, but it was during her time as a nanny for several families in the Athens-Clarke County area that she discovered her true passion—caring for others. Her nurturing spirit and dedication left a lasting impact on the families she served. In later years, Carrie extended this passion by volunteering with the Athens Community Council on Aging. Through her participation in the Senior Companion Program, she built meaningful and supportive relationships with fellow seniors, bringing companionship and joy to many. Carrie was best known for her infectious passion for living life to the fullest. With an incredible energy that made her the life of the party, she was always eager to spread joy and lend a helping hand. Her selflessness and vibrant spirit touched everyone around her. Carrie is lovingly remembered by her children: Vera Shorter, Sara (Warren) Henson, Cindy (Peter) Brandjord, and John (Beth) Harp Jr.; her sister Annie Sara Hull; grandchildren Tamara Shorter, Rusty Shorter, Ebony (Timothy) Murphy, Wesley Henson, Seth (Stacey) Brandjord, and John Luke Brandjord; and great-grandchildren Aurelia Shorter, Aleia Shorter, Cambree Henson, Timothy (TJ) Murphy Jr., and Mabel Brandjord.
