Hulett Askew Hammond, 101 of Gainesville passed away Monday March 17, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville.
Hulett was born in Atlanta, GA on September 5, 1923, son of the late Dr. George Willis Hammond and Ruth Smith Hammond of Newnan GA. Hulett graduated from Newnan High School in 1940. He attended North Georgia Military School in Dahlonega GA and Mercer College in Macon GA.
He was a former pharmaceutical salesman for many years based in Savannah GA and then built and operated the former Western Sizzlin Steakhouse in Gainesville GA until his retirement.
Hulett is survived by his wife of 75 years, Barbara Haynie Hammond of Gainesville and a daughter Karen and her husband, John, who were caretakers in his home. Survivors also include his granddaughter, Lisa Teel (Jason) and three great grandchildren, Mackenzie Tucker, Elle Teel, and Jackson Teel all of Newnan.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday March 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Carolyn Clifton will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held at the columbarium of Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions please be made to the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30506 in memory of Mr. Hammond.
