Sarah Marie (Sally) Kaufmann

Obituary Date: Wednesday, March 12, 2025

Mrs. Sarah Marie (Sally) Kaufmann, age 70 of Hoschton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at her home, surrounded by family.

Sally was born July 10, 1954 in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a Penn State University graduate, retired computer programmer, and 20-year preschool teacher in the Marietta, Georgia area.

Sally had a quiet but engaging, consistent and comforting presence. Her life was defined by a personal resilience and supporting her community. But nothing was more important to Sally than her family and friends, and no one enjoyed that love more than her cherished grandchildren. In her last 40 years, Sally taught more than 200 preschoolers, donated over 48 pints of blood, and sent each year, at last count, 108 birthday and anniversary cards.

Without fail, many could rely on Sally to be power-walking around her neighborhood, volunteering her time (and baked treats!), playing doubles tennis, working on a new sewing project, gardening and puttering around the yard, reading a new book, or ritually watching her Atlanta Braves and Nittany Lions. Most of all, she loved doting on her grandchildren and spending quality time with those close to her, all of whom will miss her dearly.

She is predeceased by her father, Grover Tharp; mother, Naomi Bradley Tharp; and sister, Judy Tharp Deane. She is survived by her husband, Brian Kaufmann; two children (Erin and Joe) and four grandchildren (Abby & Caleb; Naomi & John); brothers Nick Tharp and Chuck Tharp; sister Bess Tharp Maule; and an enormous number of loving relatives and friends.

No services will be held at this time. A celebration of Sally’s life will be held with family and friends at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a page out of Sally’s book and donate blood at your nearest American Red Cross facility. Alternatively, donations may be made to the American Red Cross Blood Services https://www.redcross.org/donate/blood-services-donation.html/
