Mary Jo Lewallyn, devoted mother and beloved homemaker, passed away on March 8, 2025, in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Born on February 12, 1931, in Good Hope, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Nina Mae Farmer Ashe. Mary Jo lived a life filled with love and family.
Mary Jo earned a Bachelor's Degree from Berry College. She was a lifelong reader and shared this passion with her children.
As a Southern Baptist, Mary Jo's faith informed her daily life and the values she instilled in her family. She embraced her role as a homemaker, focusing her energy on nurturing a warm and loving household where laughter and joy thrived. Her love for gardening and quilting showcased her creativity, as she crafted beautiful pieces that would bring comfort and warmth to those around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Lewallyn; brothers, Horace Ashe and Jamie Ashe; and a sister, Dot Meadows; who she deeply cherished.
Mary Jo is survived by her son, Bob (Carla) Lewallyn; and her daughter, Susan M. (Mark) Gerber. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren, who will remember her not only for the quilts she made but also for the life lessons she imparted.
Mary Jo's family and friends will gather for a graveside service to honor her memory at Nails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Homer, Georgia, on March 15, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest beside her loved ones, surrounded by the beauty of the community she treasured.
Mary Jo Lewallyn leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and kindness that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and the countless lives she touched.
