Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. James Enos “Chum Haggan” Nix, age 80, of Hoschton, Georgia who entered rest Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Mr. Nix was born in Young Harris, Georgia the son of the late Coleman Elijah Nix and the late Jessie Ward Nix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathan Nix and two sisters, Lorraine Nix and Blondean Gooch.
Chum worked as a logger in the pulpwood industry. He enjoyed going fishing, working on old cars, especially his 1941 Ford. He loved to listen to all kinds of music, going camping with his family, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Nix was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Sandra G. Nix of Hoschton, GA. Daughter, Hannah Helton (Ricky) of Hoschton, GA. Four sons, Ladon Nix of Pendergrass, GA, Labron Nix (Anita) of Winder, GA, Donald Anthony Nix (Sabrina) of Gillsville, GA and Travis Dwayne Nix of Pendergrass, GA. Eleven grandchildren, Trevor, Harley, Christopher, Jessie, Kari, Taylor, Elizabeth, Chase, Ariel, Christian, Ladonna and seven great grandchildren. Five sisters, Kay Robinson of Young Harris, GA, Mae Brown of Gainesville, GA, Lila McIntrye (Gerald) of Carl, GA, Jean Gooch of Nicholson, GA and Teresa McDaniel (Henry) of Carnesville, GA. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2025 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Calvin Gooch and Pastor Everest Carlile officiating. Burial will follow in Evans Memory Gardens. Honored as pallbearers will be Christopher Nix, Trevor Nix, Zack Mathis, Jacob Oertley, Heath Lee and Allan Gooch, The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home.
