Robert “Bob” Louie Hamrick

Obituary Date: Monday, March 10, 2025

Memorial Park Riverside Chapel, announces the passing of long time Gainesville resident, former Mayor and Councilman, Robert “Bob” L. Hamrick, Sr., on Monday, March 10, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 14, 2025 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, with a reception following in the Gathering Room. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.

Bob was born on August 14, 1928 in Bremen, Georgia. He was the son of the late Reverend Verner Bluford Hamrick and Floy Belle (Spence) Hamrick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue (Ash) Hamrick in 2021.

Bob moved to Gainesville in 1948 while earning his Political Science degree from Emory University. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict; and was employed with the Georgia Department of Labor and as Personnel Director for J.D. Jewell, Inc. before he began his affiliation with Home Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1973. It was during this time he started his 46 year historic lifetime of public service.

He was first elected to the Gainesville City Council in 1969 and served five terms as Mayor of Gainesville. He also served as a member or officer in numerous civic and charitable organizations. His love for Gainesville City was unmatched and evident in his involvement in the many organizations he volunteered with. He took great pride in the growth and development of Gainesville. As a faithful member he served on numerous committees at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Bob is survived by his children, Susan and Don Cargile, Bobby and Frances Hamrick, Jane and Jeff Fitzpatrick; cherished grandchildren, Rev. Zach and Stephanie Fitzpatrick, Leanne and Mark Reith, Rev. Ashley and Trey Jenkins, Kacy and Shane McMillian, and Jared and Kayla Cargile and a number of great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the loving care he received from the The Lakes of Gainesville.
