Barbara Jean Thompson

Mrs. Barbara Jean Thompson, age 77, of Nicholson, GA died Monday, March 10, 2025 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Thompson was born in Athens to the late Marshall Fred and Gertrude Trowell Blalock. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was employed with the Jackson County Board of Education. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Thompson, Jr.; daughter, Michelle Dempsey; and brother, Chester Blalock.

Mrs. Thomspon is survived by her daughters, Dawn Beatty of Jefferson and Deanna Thompson of Nicholson; sisters, Dianne Vaught of Anderson, Ruby Bridges of Danielsville, Alice Jolley of Albany and Lisa Hulsey of Maysville; brothers, Marvin Blalock of Ila and Terry Blalock of Dalton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Friday, March 14 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Zack Hawks and Rev. Don Blalock officiating. Interment will follow in Center Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
