It is with broken hearts and many extraordinary memories that we announce the death of a Jackson County icon, Coach Victor Stewart. He died in the place he most loved, the farm where he was raised in Hoschton, Georgia.
Vic played on the storied 1964 State Championship Basketball Team where he earned the Most Valuable Player of the State Tournament Award. The sport of basketball opened scholarship opportunities for him at Young Harris and Huntington Colleges. After his college playing career ended, he returned to Jackson County where he coached basketball and other sports. He then moved from the coaching ranks into Elementary Administration where he ended his career as principal of North Jackson Elementary. He counted those years as his most impactful as he poured into the lives of those children and families.
His retirement was spent doing the things he loved: golf, fishing, hunting and building an expansive community of friends. He lived a full life on his terms.
Vic is preceded in death by his mother Allie Hill Stewart and cousin (BROTHER) Jimmy. He is survived by: Son and Daughter-In-Law Steve and Angie Stewart, the loves of his life- granddaughters Madison Hope Stewart and Alexis Faith Stewart, cousin (SISTER-IN-LAW) Ann Hill and children, cousin (BROTHER) Ronnie Hill, cousins (BROTHER and SISTER-IN-LAW) Doyle and Pam Hill and children and lastly, a host of families impacted by his leadership, generosity and work.
There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, March 13th at 6:30 PM at the Historic Braselton Gym.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Jackson County Basketball.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Rd., Gainesville, Ga. 30504 is in charge of the arrangements.
