Rebecca Myong Cochren (née Myong Cha Ko), age 78, of Lilburn, Ga, passed away peacefully in her home on January 31, 2025 after a five-year battle with cancer. Rebecca was born in Kunsan, South Korea on May 15, 1946. She was one of ten children in the Ko family.
In 1973, Rebecca met Micheal John Cochren, a US Army Sergeant, in Seoul, Korea, whom she married in March 1974. Their daughter Constance (Cochren) Lagoy was born while living in Seoul in April 1975.
After immigrating to the United States in 1975, Rebecca moved to El Paso, Tx with her family, while her husband was stationed at Ft. Bliss. A year later, they settled in her husband’s hometown of Mount Vernon, Ohio, where she and Micheal had their son, Sean Micheal Cochren, in April 1977.
In 1980, Rebecca and her family moved to Houston, Tx, where they lived for several years. Rebecca spent time working at various jobs and being a homemaker for her family. She became an active member of the Korean Community Church of Houston, where she was a member of the choir and enjoyed Bible studies with her fellow parishioners.
Rebecca returned to Mount Vernon, Ohio with her family in the summer of 1987, where she raised her family, worked, and was an active member of the Korean Methodist Church of Mansfield.
Her family returned to Houston, TX in 1994, where she owned a seafood restaurant and returned to the Korean Community Church of Houston.
In 1998, Rebecca returned to Seoul, where she lived for the next 22 years. She returned to the US in 2015, where she lived with her daughter and family in Lilburn, Ga and was an active member of the Korean First Presbyterian Church in Tucker, Ga until her passing.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents and eight of her sisters and brothers. She is survived by her daughter Constance (Jeffrey) LaGoy, her son, Sean Cochren, her grandchildren Caroline Cochren, Christian Cochren, Noah LaGoy, Kobe Rios, and Niko Cochren, her sister, Myong Hui Kim, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held for Rebecca at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, Ga on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 3:30 pm. Guests are invited to join the family for light refreshments following the service.
